Important results from the project
The aim of the current project was to design, perform a numerical compensation and manufacture a composite tool, as well as the respective composite aircraft component. Finally, both the tool and the article demonstrators would be subjected to dimensional accuracy evaluation.
Expected long term effects
Within the project the following were achieved: a design of a composite tool was performed, which was compensated after iterations with FEM calculations. A tool demonstrator as well as an actual aircraft component were manufactured and finally geometrical evaluations were performed to both. It was found that both were fulfilling the tolerance requirements.
Approach and implementation
Nordic Aircraft received multiple benefits from the current project; first, a composite tool was designed, evaluated with finite element analysis and then manufactured. This resulted in a dimensionally accurate tool that can produce accurate and repeatable parts for the company´s aircraft. What is more, the project strengthened the company´s core business of tool manufacturing, by opening selling opportunities towards new markets.
