Important results from the project
The project is a joint project of the universities of Lärosäte Syd in which students, professors together with industry, the public sector, and the regions of Skåne and Blekinge learn from the Demola / Tampere / New Factory concept by testing ´live pilots´ in order to create a basis for a possible three-year ramp up in cooperation with VINNOVA and BSR Stars. Expensive interviews and, 5 well documented pilot-cases gave valuable insight into the potential of introducing Demola in the region of South Sweden. A proposal has been prepared for a possible decision on a three year implementation.
Expected long term effects
In spring 2013 five Demola pilots were undertaken showing the benefits and challenges of a possible involvement of different types of organizations, as well as the various incentives and the types of cases and organizations that are appropriate to engage in Demola. Relevant stakeholders have been identified and engaged, a good understanding has been created between them and a shared vision and commitment to pursue a Demola or like process in southern Sweden has been created. Finally, a concrete program has been launched to implement a Demola or a similar concept during 2014-2017.
Approach and implementation
The project has interviewed companies, organizations and students in southern Sweden and Finland. 28 students from two universities and three disciplines were involved in five cases by large companies, start-ups to a ´none profit´ organization. The project applied the various tools and methods developed in Finland. The project has designed a program or structure for how Demola could be run in the region with up to 300 students per semester spread over several regional nodes with local, regional and international case. The project has developed and communicated via a website.
