Important results from the project
The project´s objective was a handbook for the production of certified circular aggregate products. The handbook is now available online, owned and managed by Sveriges Bergmaterialindustrier (SBMI). It will continuously developed , as new knowledge is built up or new legislation comes into force. The project has also guided clients in purchasing circular aggregate through eligibility requirements in procurement. Support for this will be published on the Climate Municipalities´ knowledge bank.
Expected long term effects
The project´s long-term effects are better resource utilization of primary rock and sand products including natural sand. Less rock and sand is expected to be deposited. Additional effects are an increased circular use of the material generated in construction projects, which results in cost reductions and more efficient transports. This reduces climate emissions and helps achieve the goals in the construction sector´s and the rock materials industry´s roadmaps for fossil freedom.
Approach and implementation
The handbook has been iteratively developed and then discussed in workshop form with a wide range of industry stakeholders. The final version has also been sent out for broad consultation. The project has developed beyond expectations with growing interest from the industry. Interview studies with municipal clients and Trafikverket has been conducted, with the aim of achieving better circular procurement. Proposals will later be available on the Climate Municipalities´ knowledge bank.
