Important results from the project

The purpose of the project was to increase an adequate and correct use of advanced driver assistance systems by using only quantitative data in the form of car signals. Within the project, a driver coaching system has been developed, implemented and evaluated in a real driving context. The result shows that it is possible that with the help of gradual guidance while driving, it is possible to increase the use of ADAS systems radically. Before implementation of the system, the group used PA during 2.27% of driving cycles and after 4 months of support 11.76%

Expected long term effects

The desired effects when the project was started were that it would be possible to get users who in principle do not use PA to increase their use at all. The result shows that you can not only increase usage, but also get a skeptical group to develop into extreme users of the system. The results will be taken into account in the further development of interaction for ADAS systems. The hope is that similar approaches will be implemented in some form in future products.

Approach and implementation

The project has been quite clear in its mission, which meant that all parties involved have contributed from the beginning of the project. Carrying out such an advanced implementation and testing it under real driving conditions within the framework of a three-year project with only two parties can be considered very successful. Several departments at Volvo Cars in areas such as data analysis, ADAS development, UX, software development, IT and workshops have been involved in the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
