Call Electronic components & systems - research and innovation projects 2021

Important results from the project

These are the project results: 1. Updated Process Design Kit with improved compact models for circuit simulators. This is necessary to better predict the performance of fabricated circuits. 2. Uppdaterad FEM-modell with several performance-enhancing improvement suggestions. 3. Completed circuit diagram and layout for a D-band LNA. This has also been a good way to correct small errors in the PDK. Production has not gone according to plan due to sick leave and problems with machinery.

Expected long term effects

In the long term, we are now closer to starting a joint development project with one of Europe´s largest semiconductor manufacturers. A project is underway with space qualification together with a Swedish manufacturer of radio circuits for satellites. We will start a project in Act together with a major telecom company who believe we have a promising technology for front-end circuits. In the EU project Arctic, we will collaborate with several European actors in the semiconductor industry.

Approach and implementation

The work packages relating to compact models, FEM models and circuit design were carried out according to plan. The production went worse. At the beginning of the project, the production was delayed by several months due to the fact that there was no available resource at Lund University. Sick leave and downtime of some machines meant further delays. The supplied resource at NordAmps did not have sufficient experience in manufacturing these particular transistors so the work was slow.
