Important results from the project
CycleSense aimed to develop and test data-driven digital services for electric cargo bikes. Data collection, storage and sharing have been carried out in a real-world environment. Data has been explored together with users and provided insights about business models for value-creating digital services. Results have had a direct impact on design and business development of the new vehicle JySyTy. Recommendations that would generally increase the competitiveness of cargo bikes are presented.
Expected long term effects
CycleSense data can create value for municipalities and other road operators in their responsibility to streamline the urban transport system, for hauliers and transport buyers who need to reduce their climate impact from goods deliveries, and for suppliers and buyers of cargo bikes to achieve high operational reliability and cost-effective maintenance. Such digital services can contribute in the long term to a more sustainable transport system, adapted for transportation with cargo bikes.
Approach and implementation
CycleSense has followed the project plan. The working group has had valuable continuous collaboration and shared learning. Dialogue with the reference group has provided important market insights. During the project period the legal conditions changed for one of the prioritized business models (CSRD sustainability reporting). Increased understanding of which actors in the ecosystem need to participate in data collection and storage meant involving a IT system supplier as a new technical partner.
