Important results from the project

The project aimed to develop a system solution consisting of a combination of sensors and algorithms to position people in buildings, and if possible, control their movement patterns to reduce the spread of infection or identify risk areas. The focus was on developing a system that is relatively inexpensive, a sensor solution that protects privacy, and provide an interface for further development of more applications. A system has been developed and a pilot installation is planned for November 22, after which an evaluation with facility managers and visitors will follow.

Expected long term effects

In addition to demonstrating how a digital mapping system can affect the distribution of visitors in time and space, we also intend to demonstrate its usefulness after a pandemic period, for example by providing data for staff planning and optimized cleaning routines. For ROL Ergo, the research project in collaboration with Jönköping University has led to further development of the company´s related products and extended potential use of data collection and real-time applications. The project has also led to changes in approach and improved work methods.

Approach and implementation

The project has been conducted as a continuous collaboration between the company and the university. Project management has been conducted by both parties with weekly reconciliations. At longer intervals, joint workshops have been held, which also included staff outside the project. This inclusion generated rings on the water in the form of development in other product lines at the company, increased knowledge dissemination in both organizations, and staff and student exchanges between business and academia, an exchange that is expected to continue also after the project period.
