Important results from the project
The aim of the study is to analyse if improved gender equality on work places - measured with a newly developed instrument - could lead to increased growth and lower sickness absence. The study design consists of three parts: 1. Development of an instrument for assessing gender equality 2. A questionnaire study of 3000 employed 3. An action research project among 100 employed in the elderly care in the municipality of Umeå.
Expected long term effects
The project could lead to intensified work with gender equality on work places resulting in improved health and lower sickness absence. This in turn could lead to improved growth.
Approach and implementation
In international collaboration and through combining qualitative and quantiative methods we will develop a new gender sensitive instrument for assessing gender equality. A random sample of private and public work places will be done in order to analyse the relation between gender equality and health among 3000 employed and their partners. An action research project will be performed among 100 employed in the elderly care in the municipality of Umeå. A control group of 100 employed will also be selected. With the technique of dialogue seminars the employed will set up goals for how to increase the gender equality in their organisation. Both quantitative (questionnaries, blood tests) and qualitative (focus group discussions, participatory observations etc) methods will be used in the evaluation of the project.
