Important results from the project

The purpose was to for the first time ever create a forum for exchange of experience between researchers within Complex Systems Science, as well as make their knowledge available. Most important was to explore whether their specific integral understanding also of how complex factors interact within themselves can help humanity solve it´s severe challenges. The outcome exceeded all our expectations, both in terms of number of participants and their scientific qualifications, the audience and number of viewers online, and in new constellations and initiatives already generated.

Expected long term effects

The conference widely exceeded our expectations and generated a number of new insights, contacts, collaboration plans, project ideas and cross-fertilization. The expectations of the participants in turn were that the Stockholm team takes a clear leadership to coordinate project and communication for future collaborations, as the benefits of mobilizing and coordinating Complex Systems Science forces for designing sustainable global solutions to the difficult challenges we face became overwhelmingly clear.

Approach and implementation

We planned and executed an internal conference for Complex Adaptive Systems Science researchers and other systems thinkers on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019. Although the framework for CS meetings differs by advocating the absence of agenda, plan and objective not to lock in thinking and this was new to many, the reactions were consistently very positive. On Sunday a live broadcast conference was held with an afteroon workshop for 140 participants. This was appreciated and widely spread afterwards, resulting in a number of prominent actors in the area now contacting us, wishing to collaborate.
