Important results from the project

The aim of the project has been to develop a new education material for brass in selected areas (Metallography, Heat treatment, Rules and regulations, Sustainability, Hot pressing, Casting, Machining and Corrosion), according to a prioritization made by the participating project parties. The material has been published in the mobile app “Metallkompetens” in two packages, ”Mässing Basfakta”, targeting e.g. new employees or high school students, and ”Mässing Fördjupning”, which goes more into the details of the selected areas and also indicates different target skill levels.

Expected long term effects

The developed education material addresses a need for knowledge about brass, both regarding the material itself, as well as production and use of brass. Publishing this in a mobile app is a new approach and the fact that it is free to use provides a good basis for spreading knowledge about metals and to create an increased interest for metals in various target groups. Furthermore, the mobile app approach also addresses the expressed need for something modern, attractive, easy to use and flexible.

Approach and implementation

Initial interviews with representatives from participating companies gave valuable input on both content and pedagogic approach. This made the writing straight forward and confirmed that much of today’s learning happens from person to person, and that the need for written material is big. The texts were written by specialists in the selected areas, subsequently reviewed by the project parties regarding content as well as language and layout, and finally evaluated through education sessions at the participating companies. The response on the developed material was positive.
