Important results from the project

The project aims to develop a method to highlight social and ecological values, and support consensual decisions in the planning process. The goals of the project are: 1) to create communicative mapping tools; 2) to develop participatory processes in the City of Stockholm and 3) to coordinate a guideline for citizen participation in the urban planning process. In Step 1, the group of actors clarified the idea, refined the organization and analyzed the needs of the three-part project in preparation for a future Step 2.

Expected long term effects

In Step 1 the partner and reference groups have been strengthened by the addition of new competencies. The development, usage and spreading of the results is supported through clear responsibilities and needs based goals. Part A summarizes years of spatial research at Chalmers/KTH, Part B answers to political directives in Stockholm and Part C is asked for by SKL and others. The project´s connection to private and public sectors has been strengthened with property developers and NGO´s. New partners, like SGBC, give access to networks through their competence building programs.

Approach and implementation

Step 1 has developed as planned. The studies and analyses has resulted in a strong team and a draft for future project agreements. The projects in Step 2 overlap and complement each other, such as the development of a Social-Ecological Mapping Tool (A) that is communicated and tested in a Methodological Study for Participation(B). A and B become the basis for a Systematic Methodology for Participation in Urban Planning (Part C). Further theoretical discussion has been moved to Step 2, as well as the case studies, due to the wish to connect them to actual urban planning projects in Stockholm.
