Important results from the project
The project has developed a plan for building an efficient and openly available test environment for the production and evaluation of metal castings with embedded sensors, smart castings have been established, with broadening to the concept of ´digitized metal´
Expected long term effects
During the project, talks have been held with many parties, both regarding the direct common strategic view of this plan for a common development environment. This has meant that 8 organizations (RISE, Swerim, Chalmers, Luleå Technical University, Gestamp, Husqvarna, SKF, Xylem) have chosen to commit to a joint application on this venture, and that a much larger number of companies, institutes and academies have have shown great interest in later accession or to specific parts of the venture.
Approach and implementation
During the project Smart castings, the parties have RISE; Husqvarna and SKF jointly learned what works to develop castings with sensor functionality, and what is needed further to initiate the disruptive innovation process that lies ahead of this technology; Firstly, it is necessary to create a broader stakeholder base for technology development, in order to gain access to more development resources. The resources are needed to carry out more detailed tests carried out within the project, and to build up the theory formation on the various verified trials that have been done.
