Important results from the project
CLOSER is the Swedish arena for transport efficiency, focusing on research, development and innovation at an international level. Here academia, business and society work together to strenghten the whole innovation chain. The aim is also to become an established Swedish node for EU collaboration. CLOSER is up and running since the beginning of 2012. As independant evaluaters have stated it is a bit early to see concrete results. But the newly finished successful projects GO:SMART and SENDSMART show that we are on track. The ongoing EU project SWIFTLY Green is also a good sign on that.
Expected long term effects
Results of CLOSER´s work: - An established Swedish arena focusing on development and demonstration of competitive logistics and transportation systems - A number of collaboration projects within transport efficiency which lead to increased market uptake. CLOSER as a neutral Swedish arena is established. The first finished projects within Urban Mobility GO:SMART and SENDSMART have shown some good results to disseminate and build our further activities on: a model for strong consortia, active participation from researchers before, during and after demonstration projects, etc.
Approach and implementation
CLOSER focuses on three thematic areas: High Capacity Transport (HCT), Intermodal Transport & Green Corridors and Urban Mobility. These areas and the specific working group for each area is the basement for CLOSER. Here experts from our partners gather and have fruitful discussions on challenges and new innovative solutions. Our working group for HCT is a forerunner. Here shippers, forwarders and the Swedish truck manufacturers , authorities and researchers have all been very active. CLOSER has delivered a roadmap and now we have activities going on in 11 different work packages.
