Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project is to develop a new type of mobile-based expert system for assessment of otitis media in order to improve the diagnosis of otitis media and, as a result, also reduce the overprescribing of antibiotics. The aim of the project is to iteratively develop a prototype of the system and to test it at a health care center in Västerbotten and to work with commercial activities in collaboration with a business coach at Uminova Innovation.

Expected effects and result

The benefit in the longer term with the product idea is that it will increase the diagnostic quality of the assessment of ear-related problems and hopefully reduce the over-prescription of antibiotics. This will also free up time for the general practitioner who can focus on more difficult cases while other healthcare professionals can take over some of the general practitioners´tasks.

Planned approach and implementation

The work is divided into three work packages that will run in parallel throughout the project period. A work package will be responsible for all activities related to project management (eg commercialization activities, news review and reporting). Another work package will focus on clinical evaluation while the last work package will focus on activities related to technology development.
