Important results from the project
The project has aimed to develop a fully functional cloud tool, ClimateVisualizer, which within the framework of the project, is to be implemented at at least two Swedish municipalities as a public and free service to residents and civil society. The tool creates a local carbon budget that is also kept up to date by automatically calling open data. The tool also provides a locally adapted overview of historical emissions in the own municipality / region. This tool is today launched in Sweden and it will be launched in several other countries in 2021.
Expected long term effects
The hope with ClimateVisualizer has been to contribute to a new local poblic debate, where all the actors/parties in a municipality have access to pedagogically accessible and up-to-date data describing emissions and necessary emission reductions. Therefore, it is particularly exciting to follow the emergence of such a more quantitative local debate, with the local carbon dioxide budget in focus, for example in the municipality of Nyköping.
Approach and implementation
The project began with a close development collaboration with Doberman design. Much of the interface that is already in place in our first version is developed by them: https://climate-visualizer.netlify.app/ In this phase a completely new format was actually developed for how a local carbon budget can and should be visualized. The project has been ahead of schedule. Throughout the project involved researchers at Uppsala University have been involved on an almost daily basis, which far exceeds their commitment according to the project application.
