Important results from the project
In this project, we want to develop a climate-leading and competitive process industry within Green chemistry that can meet society´s increased sustainability and environmental requirements and at the same time meet tougher external competition and requirements on increased resource efficiency and more flexible processes. The vision of this 10 year initiative is that a transition occurs from a fossil-dependent industrial region to a region where the industry is a world leader in the production of chemicals, materials and fuels based on renewable and recycled raw materials.
Expected long term effects
The initative is expected to contribute to the following long-term effects: The amount of carbon dioxide emissions from the region is halved. A recycling refinery is established in Western Sweden. 50-500 new jobs in recycling of plastics and raw materials are created. Systems for reuse and recycling of raw materials are established. A production facility based on renewable feedstock is established in Western Sweden. Established market for climate-leading products and fuels. Maintained competitiveness for the process industry and long-term sustainable growth in the region.
Approach and implementation
The project has four focus areas: *Recycling refinery *Renewable feedstocks *Climate-leading process technologies *Climate-leading value chains Recycling refinery and Renewable feedstocks use raw materials originating form recycled plastics and forestry waste streams to offset the use of fossil resources. Climate-leading process technologies aims to promote efficient use of resources in industries. Climate-leading value chains deals with aspects such as business models and policy instruments. The Cluster engine formally houses supporting activities to the initiative.
