Important results from the project

The proposal identifies barriers and challenges to effective exchange between civilian and military innovation ecosystem, incl. lack of understanding of each other´s needs and processes; complicated regulations; long lead times; rigid procurement processes; balance between speed, openness and security; political and property rights issues as well cultural differences. We present a proposal for a new ecosystem with a focus on flexibility, speed and efficient resource usage.

Expected long term effects

Long-term effects of a well-functioning civil-military innovation ecosystem include improved collaboration; faster development and implementation of new technology for the defense; increased ability to meet security challenges; strengthened competitiveness for Swedes industry; more efficient use of resources through synergies between civil and military technology; wider participation of startups and SMEs in defense innovation; and more flexible and agile procurement processes.

Approach and implementation

Setp 1 was an extensive analysis of international synergies in innovation and defense. Based on strategic dialogues, workshops and national and int´l conferences and study visits with civil-military delegations to, among others USA and the UK were taken one proposal for an infrastructure and a principle document. The proposal proposes a new one complementary systems that bridge the gap between civilian and military innovation, with focus on flexibility, speed and efficient resource use.
