Venture Climate-neutral e-commerce
Call Climate-neutral e-commerce - Conversion to a sustainable e-commerce with a focus on sustainable packaging systems, return handling and delivery locations

Purpose and goal

According to the EU-regulation PPWR, at least 40 % of all e-commerce packaging by 2030 must be reuseable - this requires new models for collaboration. CIRKLA is a project involving traders, transporters, trade associations, packaging companies and research and innovation actors to demonstrate how a system for circular e-commerce packaging can be designed. The goal is to develop logistic system solutions including perspectives of design, consumer behavior and business models.

Expected effects and result

Through pilot testing, CIRKLA intends to contribute to an increased understanding of the logistics solutions, digital services and incentives that can best influence operator and consumer behaviour to increase the use of circular packaging. The project can also contribute to the adaptation of existing logistic solutions into circular business models. A successful project would provide the insights needed for developing a system for circular packaging that is commercially scalable.

Planned approach and implementation

In the project, five logistics arrangements for sending, receiving, leaving and reusing circular e-commerce packaging will be tested. Two pilot phases will be carried out, first one on a small scale and then one on a larger scale, this in order to have the opportunity to develop the solutions within the framework of the project. The project also includes activities regarding system design, impact analysis, evaluation, system issues and potential for scaling up the solutions.
