Important results from the project

With this project we aim to extend the life of the textiles and close the textile loop. By creating new products - through upcycling - based on the customers´ needs, we can create new revenue streams and at the same time save environmental resources (water, energy, chemicals). Manufacturing these products in an ethical way creates jobs and opportunities for many which also is a great social gain. Taking care of all kinds of resources, both human and material, is a prerequisite for creating a sustainable circular society.

Expected long term effects

Two functional circular products have been developed. Jobs have been created. Both Textilia and Sophiahemmet have received fantastic products with a strong story to tell. Their brands will be strengthened both internally and externally - gaining traction as employers, having more satisfied customers and strengthening their marketposition. The future will force laundries to change their KPIs to include things like the number of liters of water saved and the number of kg of carbon dioxide is likely.

Approach and implementation

Several workshops were held at Sophiahemmet to find out what their needs were. Visits to the laundry together with the designer were conducted to find out what needed to be taken into account in designing the products. The fabrics were analyzed by Stormie Poodle and the designer: What are the material´s limitations? How can it be cut effectively? Several prototypes were developed and tested to see if they could withstand industrial laundry. Two products met both the project´s requirements on circularity as well as Sophiahemmet´s needs. A price for laundry was produced.
