Important results from the project
** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** 9,000 women / year are diagnosed with breast cancer in Sweden and every year 40,000 are prescribed tamoxifen. About 50% of these women do not complete the treatment due to severe side effects, among other things. There are currently no opportunities for healthcare to follow up on these women. Rhelise kit is a quick easy way to take a blood sample and be able to get answers that the active dose is sufficient. The treating physician can, based on the results and in consultation with the patient, change the dose so that optimal treatment is obtained.
Expected long term effects
** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The results have been positive and the knowledge we now have is the basis for future development, now we are planning for a larger randomized multicenter study. The aim is to show that care can be improved by early detection of patients who are underdosed and to try to reduce the dose of tamoxifen if the side effects are severe and the effective dose is high. 5 years to 10 years. This means that the need to be able to determine tamoxifen and its effective dose has increased.
Approach and implementation
** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** Initially, special chemicals were purchased, chemicals not commercially available were manufactured (Novandi). In the project, methods were developed for both sampling and analysis. The strategy made it possible for both methods to be optimized and for synergy effects to be obtained. Furthermore, instructions were written for how the methods would be used directly based on the experience we gained from the development of the methods. The ongoing pandemic has affected the project, we are therefore extra pleased to receive the results we now have.
