Capacity-building dialogue for the procurement of sustainable construction processes in Borlange Kommun

Important results from the project

Borlänge Municipality Group has made great progress with sustainable procurement in the construction sector to reduce climate impact. Through guidelines that prioritize conservation and reuse, concrete steps have been taken towards achieving climate neutrality by 2030. These guidelines are used in current projects and have already shown reduced emissions and costs. The goals have been partially achieved, but continued work is required to fully achieve the ambition.

Expected long term effects

Regardless of which industry you are in, you need to do what you can to contribute to the transition. And by spreading knowledge about what we do in this project, the potential of driving climate change with procurement as a tool is made visible. It is a lot about thinking new things and changing attitudes, not just in the construction industry. In the future, we will continue to use our guidelines in every project and act sustainably.

Approach and implementation

With the help of the consultant we were able to bring in with the Vinnova grant, we completed the Guidelines, which mean that when the municipal group purchases construction and management from now on, preservation/reuse will take precedence over new production/demolition. Both reduced emissions and reduced costs. A complement and guidance to the new guidelines, a manual has been produced that contains proposals for eligibility requirements that can be used when procuring construction contracts.
