Important results from the project

The project has aimed to investigate potential business models for a Swedish industrial-government-academic consortium to meet the need to manufacture vaccines in a pandemic. The project has reached the goal of giving a first picture of what this might look like, the report is attached.

Expected long term effects

The report should be seen as a first tentative survey and gives several recommendations: - There must be political will to act long-term and proactively before the next pandemic. - Establishment of a permanent "pandemic task force" with clear mandates should be explored. - Engage with continuous inventory and mapping of Sweden´s capacity to produce a vaccine - A consortium of actors must include the entire value chain to lower the risk of production shortages. - Sweden is a small country, it will be important to establish cooperation with other nations.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out as mainly a student project with two students from Karolinska Institutet. RISE and Cytiva Testa centre have supervised and offered their networks to the students.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
