Important results from the project
BioProcess Innovation Center, now Testa Center, is part of the Swedish government´s commitment to a strong Swedish life science sector. Testa Center is a crucial and a missing link - a complementary infrastructure and verification environment in the development of new biopharmaceuticals. In this project, innovation processes for participating projects have been developed by running 10 pilot projects. The model developed, using verification funding to lower the threshold for usage, has been very successful, and the occupancy have been good to very good the first year of operation.
Expected long term effects
Testa Center shortens and simplifies the path from research results to product launch. This means that more SMEs are given the opportunity to grow and become more attractive for further investments. By Testa Center, we get a more efficient use of skills and resources, and a more efficient national life science ecosystem. Sweden is given a world-unique competence hub for bioprocesses and bioproduction methods, contributing to making Life Science in Sweden internationally competitive.
Approach and implementation
The project plan, including participating parties and anchoring among stakeholder, has worked very well. It has been very beneficial to have an external, independent party responsible for the development of processes and management of the projects coming through Testa Center. Regarding type application, it has predominantly been biological projects during the first year. Further work includes focusing more on technology and digitally oriented projects. An important conclusion is that verification funding has been a success factor for the start-up of Testa Center.
