Important results from the project
The project has effectively fulfilled its objective of showcasing commercially attractive air filters utilizing cellulose-based materials and a wet-foaming production technique. The new technique provided cellulose-based filter with higher performance than previously, as well as reducing the time & energy-cost in production.
Expected long term effects
The project´s outcome resulted in industrially relevant prototypes of cellulose-based filters material with high performance for pollutant capture through the new wet-foaming approach. Additionally, complementary production techniques were tested and the result was the introduction of granulation as a production step. This technique enables a form of filter already adopted by the air filter industry.
Approach and implementation
The project was structured into three distinct work packages: formulating the wet-foam production, laboratory-scale evaluation and characterization, and end-user assessment. Regular project meetings facilitated discussions and planning, enabling iterative improvements based on collective stakeholders’ inputs.
