Important results from the project
Big Science Sweden (BiSS) has established a well-functioning national organization with a broad base. The organization is run through a consortium )Lund University, Uppsala University, Chalmers, Luleå University of Technology, RISE, Teknikföretagen, Region Skane and IUC Syd). BiSS has well-established relationships with the research facilities in which Sweden participates and a national network of Swedish companies (approx. 230), universities and institutes. BiSS generates business for Swedish companies corresponding to 8-9 times the project´s annual operating budget.
Expected long term effects
During the project´s first 3-year period, BiSS has been involved in generating business for approximately SEK 250 million for Swedish industry. 2019 was the first year that Sweden had an industrial return from CERN that exceeded our share relative to our budget contribution. During the first program period, BiSS has built an activities with skills, relationships and working methods that is unique in Sweden and makes BiSS well equipped for the next step. BiSS has high goal fulfillment both in terms of results- and activity goals described in the project application.
Approach and implementation
Big Science Swedens´s success factors have been that we have organized ourselves into a transnational organization, built sustainable relationships with research facilities, researchers and industry and managed to recruit / allocate staff with deep knowledge in each area, both in technology and business development.
