Important results from the project

Betriot aims to increase knowledge of how a municipality can work with smart lighting to increase safety and security in the public environment in a climate-smart and equal way. The purpose has been fulfilled by developing a model that shows what is required of the municipal organization in order to be able to implement smart technology.

Expected long term effects

The project Betriot has mapped the challenges and benefits of smart lighting by going through existing research and conducting interviews with experts and stakeholders. The result is a model that shows how municipalities can successfully implement smart lighting. The model illustrates needs, emphasizes the importance of contextual understanding and promotes cross-sector coordination to maximize effectiveness. The hope is that the model will reduce the threshold for municipalities to start implementing smart technology.

Approach and implementation

Betriot has focused on three different overarching parts, to identify a) what technology is available in the area and how it can save energy, b) how it can affect the safety and security of residents of the city and c) what is required of the municipal organization to manage and maintain smart lighting. To achieve this, interviews have been conducted with industry representatives, municipal representatives and stakeholders in the form of particularly vulnerable groups. The project has also gone through research and experiences in the subject and carried out several workshops.
