Call Increased resource efficiency through circular economy (stage 2) - development and innovation projects

Important results from the project

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The purpose of the project was to contribute to the transition to a circular economy by replacing fossil oils with pyrolysis oil in from used tires in the manufacture of base oil products. Upgrading the pyrolysis oil resulted in a product with base oil-like qualities, the concept needs to be further developed to reach its full potential. Parts of an imaginary value chain have been established within the project, a producer of pyrolysis oil and an upgrade within the existing refinery structure.

Expected long term effects

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The project has achieved the desired effect as upgrading the pyrolysis oil resulted in a product with base oil-like qualities. Intended value chain has been identified and the concept´s market potential been assessed and shows some potential. However, significant development work remains to meet the problems observed during the upgrade of the pyrolysis oil and for the final product to meet market expectations.

Approach and implementation

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** Under the prevailing circumstances, the project has been carried out in a satisfactory manner. Visits were made to one of the parties before restrictions were introduced, which made further site visits impossible. Meetings and contacts have instead been conducted via Teams. Some problems with the oil upgrade caused the project to be extended in order to be completed.
