BADA - On-board Off-board Distributed Data Analytics

Reference number
Coordinator Volvo Personvagnar Aktiebolag - Volvo Car Group
Funding from Vinnova SEK 10 784 750
Project duration December 2016 - December 2019
Status Completed
End-of-project report 2016-04260eng.pdf (pdf, 1063 kB)

Important results from the project

The aim of the project was to develop methods and algorithms for analysis in a distributed environment where subsets of the analysis are already done in the vehicles. A framework that has the capability to perform distributed analysis has been developed and demonstrated in a test bench, with streaming data from a vehicle. At the same time, algorithms have been developed to compress data in streaming environment and methods for analyzing streaming data.

Expected long term effects

The project was based on real user cases that were developed within the project. This was an iterative process and one of the user cases had to be excluded because of its complexity. A framework was developed where the user can distribute analytical questions to the vehicles. This was demonstrated with real vehicles. Part of the research in the project was carried out by the industrial doctoral student who researched on effective ways of handling, transmitting and analyzing streaming data. The research resulted in several publications presented at various conferences.

Approach and implementation

In the project, Volvo Car Corporation, collaborated with Volvo Group Truck Technology, Chalmers Tekniska University, Alkit Communications and Fraunhofer-Chalmers. In order to fulfill the purpose, the project has included the following main activities: Method and algorithm development, Dimensioning and implementation and Demonstration of feasibility. Due to reorganizations and problems with the employment of the industrial Ph.D student, there were delays in the project. By extending the project for one year, planned work could be carried out and expected results delivered.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
