Purpose and goal

The purpose of AXESS is to explore the use of Extended Reality (XR) as a problem solver for the industry. Products and service providers could use XR to assess customer needs and possible solutions, involving stakeholders with different backgrounds through visual and immersive experiences during development and operational processes. The project aims to leverage collaboration between academic and industrial partners to bridge current knowledge and competence gaps, enabling the industry to exploit XR to foster sustainable innovation.

Expected effects and result

AXESS will deliver XR tools for customer needs and solutions assessment for each industrial partner to be further developed beyond the project’s timeframe. Testing activities with end-users (i.e., partners’ employees and customers) comparing various XR technologies and applications will provide an understanding of their potential and limitations, which will be used to generate design guidelines. Knowledge transfer and exchange among the academic and industrial partners will prepare the latter for the rapid integration of XR into the companies’ operations.

Planned approach and implementation

AXESS is structured to reach case-specific and common objectives across the different businesses involved. Each industrial partner will co-design, develop, and test XR tools with the academic partner to address their unique needs and requirements. Knowledge transfer includes the set-up of XR learning labs at each partner’s facilities and customized training sessions. Knowledge exchange initiatives will engage all partners to facilitate the sharing of insights and lessons learned across the project, accelerating the development of competencies.
