Venture Strategic innovation programme for process industrial IT and automation – PiiA
Call PiiA: Digitalization of industrial value chains, spring 2020

Important results from the project

AutoTwin-PRE investigated the conditions and roadmap for an R&D project that envisions a framework enabling automatic generation and update of Digital Twins with a high level of autonomy and intelligence for process industrial systems. A mining production environment is characterized by many interacting and interdepending unit processes, and thus an ideal case of investigation. An R&D roadmap for automatically generated, self-correcting, and highly autonomous digital twins of process industrial systems, incl. values and barriers has been developed during the project.

Expected long term effects

An R&D roadmap for automatically generated, self-correcting, and highly autonomous digital twins of process industrial systems, incl. values and barriers has been developed during the project, and a large R&D project can be built upon the outcome.

Approach and implementation

AutoTwin-PRE was a feasibility study that would map the conditions for an R&D project where the result was a roadmap. The work was divided into several activities where the project group analyzed state of the art, existing tools, and conditions in the industry. The project involved many participants and many different aspects, and thus the implementation became scattered. The universities were also delayed in their participation due to recruitment difficulties. The work thus ended up out of step. Nevertheless, the project could be completed according to the objective.
