Important results from the project
1. Development of academic merits Completed two pedagogy courses at Chalmers. Built and gave a 5-session workshop on Bayesian Statistics in transportation applications. Gave two lectures as part of a Chalmers course on Epidemiology for Traffic Safety. 2. Challenges in connected and autonomous vehicles Brought Bayesian statistical methods and other advanced methods to transportation applications to SAFER researchers and students. Published one paper. Presented results at the Humanist Conference; paper under review for journal publication.
Expected long term effects
I collaborated extensively with PhD students and faculty at Chalmers and industrial partners at SAFER. I gave 3 special talks including one at the Chalmers Area of Advance Transport symposium. We published one paper, presented a second paper. I am collaborating on a proposal to promote further dialogue between Psychology, Statistics, and Engineering around transportation challenges. Planning details of a future course in statistical methods for transportation and discussions for a student exchange program is underway.
Approach and implementation
During my stay in Sweden, I completed A1, A2 and half of B1 Swedish language courses. Chalmers provided me with two pedagogy courses (University Teaching and Learning, and Digital Media and Blended Learning). These helped advance my skills in teaching and my ability to integrate into Swedish life.I met with collaborators regularly to discuss analysis questions, participated in regular group meetings, attended lunch symposia, and went to group social activities. I experienced significant professional growth through this grant.
