Purpose and goal
The project builds on the two previous projects AuSSys step 1, ph. 1/2, (2022-00086/2023-01035), where a prototype for a search system was developed and demonstrated in a range of scenarios. In this project, we introduce new concepts to extend the autonomous capabilities of AuSSys, focused on generating and updating distributed situational awareness that can be used directly by operational personnel or by the system itself for mission planning and execution to manage emergencies. In addition, the development of new natural language interfaces for the AuSSys system is being studied.
Expected effects and result
The specific target goal for the project is to develop and demonstrate aspects of an integrated system of systems that supports distributed collaborative systems consisting of humans and robotic teams interacting together to achieve complex goals. The project will target search and rescue scenarios and the methodology used will be demonstrator driven. This methodology consists of building prototype systems based on theoretical research, testing them empirically, analyzing weaknesses and strengths and iterating on the cycle.
Planned approach and implementation
Given the complexity of the targeted system, selected functionalities will be prioritized for development in the larger system. Activities are structured in topic and area, and in this project it is based on three perspectives; Distributed Task, Distributed Information, Interaction. Each of these will have a dedicated work package to focus on specific topics associated with that perspective. An additional work package will focus on the integration of the perspectives in a prototype system demonstrating selected functionalities from each perspective operating together.
