Important results from the project
The goal is to develop an international test arena where new solutions for tomorrow´s aviation are to be developed, validated and demonstrated in a real airport environment with associated controlled airspace. The test arena will benefit from automation and digitalisation to create efficient and sustainable solutions. Research aimed at developing and creating conditions (safety, capacity, sustainability and cost-effectiveness) for unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as conversion to electric aircraft (fossil-free) and electrification of airports will be central.
Expected long term effects
The project has created a physical test bed at Örnsköldsvik Airport, an excellent location for testing both air and airspace as well as ground vehicles. A few well-defined deliverables remain to be completed before LARC is fully completed. The technology connected to drones is on the rise and LARC makes it possible to test different applications of these on a small scale to address different societal challenges.
Approach and implementation
** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The project was led by the project manager (PM) Jonas Didoff, who is also responsible for the EDIS project (the first project to actively use the opportunities offered at LARC). The project began by establishing common delivery goals and to define the scope, responsibilities and dependencies between the activities designed to establish the constituent components that per VINNOVA´s description are in a test bed.
