Important results from the project

ASPECT´s purpose was to contribute to Volvo´s electric autonomous transport solution (ATS), with focus on energy optimization and industrialization. Develop the electric ATS to TRL6, focusing on energy efficient fleet and site management, design a new Volvo electric medium-sized hauler, develop digital twins for different applications, identify methods for requirements management, and contribute to 5G system infrastructure for electrified autonomous machines. Increase cooperation between academia and industry and generate data, knowledge and innovations.

Expected long term effects

The project has achieved the majority of its objective and purposes. We have achieved TRL6 on several of the system´s components, developed digital twins for product development and site optimization, ensured requirements on the 5G network, worked with requirements and methods for the electric autonomous site and used modeling and simulation for the design of a new electric dump truck. The project´s results will be used by the industrial partners in future development. We have collaborated and disseminated information between the consortium´s partners.

Approach and implementation

The project was divided into a matrix of work packages, with Volvo´s work packages as connecting verticals. Each party has achieved its aim and objective at the same time as we have increased our common understanding of the subjects. Relatively decoupled work packages have enabled a dynamic way of working, with meetings to discuss the overlap between work packages. Volvo, as coordinator, defined the basic prerequisites from which the other partners proceeded in their work. Through a final demonstration at AstaZero, we showed our results and how they related to each other.
