Important results from the project
In this study, we investigated the possibility to find two artistic objects with the ability to concentrate sunlight and reviewed their concentration ability. 1-We found 2 geometries that can concentrate sunlight and are possible to be produced and polished by the local industries Kosta glass production and Nova Innovation Solutions. 2-We simulate these structures and found out their concentration ratio.
Expected long term effects
Structures we chose for optical simulation are called XR (a compact design based on refraction and reflection) and LC (Lens and Cone: a cone mounted on a shaft). These structures are manufacturable by Kosta glasproduktion and polishable by Nova Innovation Solutions AB. XR-structure has an optical concentration equal to 12.2 X while LC-structure can concentrated the incoming light 16 X.
Approach and implementation
During this project we had various meetings (physical & online). Through our discussions we chose 2 structures to be simulated. In the same way and also by litterature study we have rather good picture of the CPV market needs and what we need to learn. Among others the need of cheaper, good quality optical objects can be mentioned. To do that, more automatised production at Kosta has been highlighted. Also to achieve lower electricity prices, design innovations for Absolicon are needed.
