Important results from the project
With arguments such as recyclability, impact resistance, long shelf life, weldability and cost, thermoplastic based composites are expected to have a great potential in the aerospace industry. The purpose of this study was to conduct an in-depth and focused survey of how Inxide´s technology, i.e. materials and manufacturing processes, are matching the needs- and quality requirements in the aerospace industry.
Expected long term effects
Particular focus has been placed on the relationships between process parameters and mechanical performance. This pre-study is the basis for continued efforts to formulate a work plan to test critical technical functions, with an identified future business case in mind.
Approach and implementation
A literature review was conducted to examine the market for thermoplastic composites in the aerospace today, how it is expected to develop in the coming years, and the appropriate ways forward to optimize materials and processes based on Inxide´s technology. Based on the identified technical and business challenges a joint workshop was organized to highlight the most important manufacturing aspects, and how these affect the repeatability and performance of Inxide´s products.
