Important results from the project

At Luleå University of Technology (LTU) several courses in geophysics are taught. The courses content involves the basic introduction as well as details of various geophysical methods, including field operations. Therefore, the main objectives of the project were to create virtual learning environment for the field exercises. In this project a virtual field course with video guidance on how to operate the equipment was prepared instead of the usual field exercise. The video includes explanation of theory and step-by-step explanation of the field setup and operations.

Expected long term effects

We have done the fieldwork in exploration interesting areas. The measurements include ground survey and unique borehole survey. High-quality data has been collected. We took the video record for the instrument operations during the measurement and provided detailed explanations in the video. This virtual learning environment has not yet been used in the courses which will be taught during spring semester. We expect that students will get better understanding and be more skilful in realistic working environment.

Approach and implementation

In this project a virtual field course with video guidance on how to operate the equipment was prepared instead of the usual field exercise. Field work was carried out together with LKAB in realistic environment. Data acquired are of a high quality and will be used during exercises and for assignments. The video includes explanation of theory and step-by-step explanation of the field setup and operations. The video recordings will be used routinely during geophysics courses at LTU.
