Important results from the project
The project aimed to develop an architecture integrating “Digital Twins” for products and processes in jet engine research. The long-term goal was to enhance integration and collaboration across domains, enabling simulations and virtual validation with increasing AI/ML support. However, it was found that many struggled with data creation and usage. The knowledge and maturity levels for creating and using “Digital Twins” were lower than expected, shifting the focus to systematic data management.
Expected long term effects
The vision and strategy is that a "digital factory" should enable tests and validation in a virtual environment. The result will be included in a roadmap for digitalization and AI. With better integration and management of different types of data, there is a good opportunity to increase efficiency, productivity and innovation, as well as standardize solutions. Time for implementation within R&D and industrialization will be reduced. A publication is planned to spread knowledge about the results.
Approach and implementation
The first 5 months included literature studies & information gathering at the company, to give the participants knowledge about the company´s organization & current state in "digitalisation". The development of interview questions was done in parallel. Half-term report with workshops with different roles was done after 6 months, & a plan for working with solutions was anchored. The second part of the project was mainly based on case study to try & exemplify proposed methods on relevant project.
