Important results from the project
The project´s result is an AI-based language product that takes the needs of those born abroad into account, while at the same time the product streamlines work and makes it easier for companies and organizations to support an increased number of foreign-born students. The effect is that these target groups can take part in vocationally adapted digital courses and trainings produced by an AI author. The target group can then absorb new knowledge that is needed in the labor market so that they do not end up in long-term unemployment.
Expected long term effects
More than 300,000 people have applied for asylum in Sweden since 2014. Language is the most important factor to establish yourself on the labor market. The digital education solutions that exist today do not take advantage of the possibilities of AI to teach the language needed in the labor market. The project group has researched new AI methods and developed new commercial products in language learning which means that the students can learn the language much more effectively with a focus on professional Swedish.
Approach and implementation
Two research groups at KTH have worked with dialogues and question generation, respectively, and have had continuous contact with Lingio in order to create commercially useful solutions adapted to the target group. At the end of the project, Lingio has implemented a finished product for the AI author that will be launched in Q1 2023. The educational product has been developed iteratively in close collaboration with users from the target groups.
