Important results from the project

The aim of the project was to explore how AI can reduce inequality in different areas, identify gaps and opportunities and enable call to action in this area. In this project, we aimed to bring the experts from the AI domain and gender studies for an interdisciplinary and participatory dialogue together with when representatives constitute the public, private and academia.

Expected long term effects

This work has sparked a lot of interest and local synergies in WAI community, new projects has been initiated and interest from the local communities to continue the dialogue on the topic. We have identified a number of opportunities and challenges in how AI can contribute to gender equality and provided some recommendations on how to take this work further in the final report.

Approach and implementation

The project has explored how AI could contribute to gender equality, by initiating 1. a number of workshops within Women in AI ecosystem in Ireland, Australia, Mexico (with experts from Columbia and Chili), 2. a number of interviews with experts from diverse backgrounds, 3. a global workshop where we have brought all experts together for participatory session and was supported by 4. desktop research. Due to circumstances of corona pandemic, we had to step away from original plan of running the workshops in person, move online and significantly reduce the time of each workshop.
