Important results from the project

As set out by the collaborating authorities, the project goal has been to ensure that there exists up-to-date, high-quality open data available on the landscape and land use in Sweden. This has culminated in a proposal for the production and management of an improved NMD product with improved accuracy, this includes cost estimates as well any remaining work to be completed before implementation. Within the reference group, use cases for the product have been shared, including innovative examples from private actors. What remains is to secure long-term funding.

Expected long term effects

The results and anticipated outcomes of this project have been successfully achieved, participating organisations have indicated that the collaboration between partners has worked very well and resulted in a consensus around the project proposals for implementation. Over the three test areas, method development has resulted in higher accuracies and increased automation. Work to establish the National land cover dataset as a national foundational dataset has begun but has not yet been completed due to DIGG´s scheduling, a plan for the continuation of this work has been made.

Approach and implementation

A joint project plan was developed, divided into nine work packets, and led by selected people from the participating organisations. Decisions were made collectively during the ten stakeholder meetings that were held. Meetings with the reference group (60 organisations) presented an opportunity to discuss user requirements and technical developments. The entire project has been rich with engagement and discussion from participants at all levels, as was realised the benefits brought forward by this project are important for many different work operations and activities.
