Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to bring our low-cost, low-emission stove-designer closer to market. We have tested and re-designed a number of versions and are now ordering the intended test series of 10 stoves for field testing.
Expected long term effects
We are very pleased with the results. A non-scientific field study shows that we have designed the only non-fanned stove we have ever tried that can be used indoors without experiencing nausea or other unpleasantries. We are now confident enough to build to start field tests with customers in Africa. Parallell with the project, Emerging Cooking Solutions have won a tender from SIDA (Beyond the Grid Fund) where the goal is to supply 50 000 households with home-energy systems (solar systems for light and charging, stoves and pellets for cooking). We aim for 5000 stoves 2017.
Approach and implementation
The project has proceeded according to plan. Vi har made several prototypes for testing in Zambia and Sweden, and have changed and adjusted air-flow-regulation, height and other design details. Early versions were built with valve/air-regulation that got overheated, changed shape and got stuck. This has been amended and adjusted. We have tried air-regulation on the side of the burn-chamber and under the burn-chamber. Air-regulation on the side is the most suitable option. The new design has been test-built and has extremely low emissions.
