Important results from the project
The project aimed at practical verification of improvements by steerable dolly, of low and high speed manoeuvrability for an A-double combination vehicle (tractor,semitrailer, dolly semitrailer, 32-34 meters, 60-80 ton). Low speed test where completed successful, while high speed tests were only initial but promising.
Expected long term effects
The solution with steerable dolly is very promising since it facilitates safe introduction of longer heavy vehicles. Longer heavy vehicles facilitates transport, energy and CO2 efficiency. Swept path width for low speed manoeuvrability (12.5 m radius, 90 deg turn) can be reduced with approximately 40%. Rearward amplification for high speed lane change can be reduced almost to same values of a tractor+semitrailer.
Approach and implementation
Build and control design was carried out in earlier project. The Vinnova project enabled practical verification.
