Purpose and goal
In the Projektet AcouQual a system for quality testing of components made of carbon fiber composite will be developed. The methodology is based on establishing a database with structural dynamic and acoustic properties for components made of composite materials, to be used for comparisons with test results from simple acoustic tests. No special knowledge of acoustics or structural dynamics shall be required to perform the tests. The test results shall be evaluated automatically, and give the outcome "passed" or "not passed" for the tested component.
Expected effects and result
The proposed quality test method will give higher reliability in the production of high-tech products such as aircraft. Components made with new, more efficient, manufacturing methods can quickly and reliably be evaluated. In addition, the test method can be used to investigate properties of components and structures subjected to long-term or extreme load.
Planned approach and implementation
Typical components are selected and characterized. Modeling and analysis are to be made with the Finite Element Method for structural dynamics and Vibro-Acoustics. Efficient and reliable methods for modeling of carbon fiber layers and their orientation is central for the project. Measurement of sound and vibrations are to be made in various test locations, and with alternative test setups, to identify simple, but reliable test configurations and test methods.
