Important results from the project
The strategic innovation program, InfraSweden2030, has conducted a competition aimed at achieving zero emissions of greenhouse gases together with the construction industry (clients, consultants and contractors) and the building materials industry. The competition has been initiated by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency with several Swedish authorities. The contest´s objective are: Innovation concept that achieves zero emissions of greenhouse gases Measures for implementation Proposals for improvements to or new innovationpromoting laws, rules, etc.
Expected long term effects
The project results are presented in 13 concepts that will benefit the entire industry. Winners have been selected in two series, overall solution and hotspot. Winning "overall solution" is a worm-shaped bridge, in climate-positive steel and concrete construction with honeycomb structure, which saves materials and produces energy. A concept that reduces 304´ tonnes CO2. Winning "hotspot" is a bridge where nature´s own processes grow up the biofuel source using CO2 and lime from the ocean. The concept also includes new construction processes and new business and financing models.
Approach and implementation
The project/competition has been conducted at 5 internat and a number of meetings in accordance with the following process: 1. Discussion of the basic challenge 2. Identification of "hotspots" which affect the greenhouse gas emissions most, 3. Selection of scenarios to reach zero emissions 4. Identification, calculation and verification of possible emission reduction 5. Identification of barriers for enabling zero-emission / net-positive connection. 6. Creating strategies for how potential results can be realized, made into marketable products and how they can be exported.
