Important results from the project

The project met the objectives of accelerating the implementation of Green Travel Plans as well as developing an accelerator for this purpose. The collaboration has developed and several initiatives are planned with existing actors and additional collaboration partners. Participating cities state that the accelerator was valuable and helped them come further than without it. In addition, participating cities have also expanded their collaborations with employers, academia and associations.

Expected long term effects

Scaling and more effective implementation enables faster transition. Green travel plans reduce carbon emissions from car travel and provide tangible benefits for individuals, employers and society. Smoother everyday travel, less traffic stress, better health and well-being, and nicer and safer local environments. For employers, measures can make workplaces more attractive, employees healthier with fewer sick days. Society at large will have less congestion, cleaner air and more liveable cities.

Approach and implementation

During 2025, Viable Cities, SKR and Linköping municipality have developed and prototyped an Accelerator to facilitate implementation and scaling up of Green travel plans, to increase the share of sustainable everyday travel in cooperation with local actors. This is part of aiming for climate-neutral cities. Twelve cities have participated in the work to design a practical support to facilitate the implementation, scaling and dissemination of already validated working methods and solutions.
