Important results from the project
With the help of open data sources, including air quality measurements in Sweden and abroad, we have visualized the results in an entirely new way and create relevant comparisons between neighborhoods and places within a neighborhood. This to set focus on local variations, and start discussions of what influences that, to get people to reflect about their local air. In parallell, The art exhibition ´Memories of Air´ by Nandi Nobell at the Färgfabriken Art Gallery Centre explored our relationship to air from an experiential perspective. And raised questions and reflections about air.
Expected long term effects
This project was made to influence the citizens to experience the actual air in a city, and start reflecting about differences, comparisons, and what initiatives that can be made to improve the situation. The art exhibition really did that in an inventive way. We all know air is the primary medium of life and survival - but how conscious are we about air in everyday life? Is the air in your lungs of optimal quality, and will the future condition of air be in our favour? And what is the air like where I live today? Additionally we brought the data from local air quality measuring, visualized in the app.
Approach and implementation
The intention was that the art experience should create sensations of different air qualities, all related to actual places, based on actual data from our pilot project, and make concrete, what is normally very abstract, air. ´Memories of Air´ may seem abstract at first, but did indeed contribute in an inventive way with new reflections to the continued work with gathering of data, places to measure, all related to real places where we all live and act, not only about air as a general phenomina. The data visualized will create important results, to help improve local neighborhoods and cities
