Important results from the project
In order to determine if and how the SOFA-system shall be commercialized a verification project is being carried out. The project is divided into four project steps were each step aims at increasing the possibility to evaluate both customer value and commercialization form. Step 1 was carried out between February 1 and June 30 2009. The aim of Step 1 was to verify a business and market potential for SOFA and at the same time evaluate the uniqueness of the system. As a result of the project a system specification was formulated together with a potential customer. The specification includes both demands on the hardware and on services needed to achieve the full potential of the measurement method behind SOFA. Step 2 was carried out between September 2009 and Mars 2010. The aim of Step 2 was to proceed with a technical verification in industrial scale against the part of the specification defining that part. The aim of Step 3 is that by verifying SOFA-based process development and optimization create a basis for a quality system. A plan for further development of the quality system to an expert system shall also be made.
Expected long term effects
1.Make a variation analysis of a paper board using the installed SOFA-system 2.Perform an optimization work together with a customer to verify that the SOFA-system has the potential to decrease production cost.
Approach and implementation
During the work in Step 1 has a system specification been formulated. The specification includes both a technical and a competence related part, which together defines the important components of the SOFA-system necessary to create a large customer value. During Step 2 and 3, a verification work shall be carried out together with a potential customer outgoing from the system specification. In Step 2 shall the technical specification be verified by scaling up the SOFA system and implement it in a full-scale paperboard machine. Besides the technical verification shall a methodology bee developed for system identification. In Step 3 shall the potential for raw material savings be explored. The possibility to perform process development and optimization using SOFA shall be verified.
