Important results from the project
Hi5 has a goal to increase the cooperation between industry and Mälardalen Real-Time Research Centre (MRTC) with three innovative instruments. The effects of Hi5 are further strengthened by a close cooperation with PROGRESS, the strategic research centre.
Expected long term effects
During the period covered by the application, Hi5 will result in the education of 40 predoc (master) students and 12 postdoctoral students, 5 visiting professors establishing cooperation with Swedish industry, and 20 PhD students and/or researchers spending a shorter period of time at one of the cooperating companies. In addition, there will be long term positive effects such as a long term strengthening of the cooperation between the industrial and academic communities, increased possibilities to recruit international experts, and a strengthened relevance of the academic research and research programmes
Approach and implementation
The three instruments of Hi5 are: 1. An industrial Pre-Doctoral Programme (Predoc) with the objective of increasing the recruitment base and preparing the students for research programmes and research in close cooperation with companies. The Pre-Doctoral Programme is packaged as a two-year Masters programme with strong elements of industry cooperation, including master theses that are carried out jointly with participating companies. 2. An industrial Post-Doctoral Programme, (Postdoc) where new PhDs have the opportunity to start or continue research in cooperation between academia and industry. PhDs who have successfully completed their dissertations and continued their career in industry will be provided with the opportunity to maintain and make new research contacts within the academic community. Also, the PhDs that continue with their research at academia will get opportunity to continue with an applied research through a post-doctoral period at one of the cooperating companies. 3. A mobility programme with both international and industrial stays for PhD students, international postdocs and researchers, as well visiting professors.
