Important results from the project

The purpose of A Garden for All was to design the garden at Ängås gård in such a way that it is perceived as attractive, safe and accessible by all visitors. The goal was to generate new knowledge about green spaces in the physical environment as part of experimental development. We have achieved aim and objective by creating an experience-based loop. Both internally among staff and work trainees at both project partners and externally among Vägen ut!s employees, new knowledge has been generated about what universal design is and how it can be applied in practice.

Expected long term effects

The result of the project is an experience-based loop that runs through the garden at Ängås farm. To achieve the goals of accessibility, security and attractiveness, we have worked based on three factors: taste, smell and feel. It has been a guide in the physical design of the loop and also in the choice of vegetation. The effect we wanted to achieve with the project is that A garden for all will become an inclusive meeting place and increase equality in Västra Frölunda. We have started to market this within the framework of the project, but that work will continue even after project completion.

Approach and implementation

The start-up phase of the project was about developing ideas for the design of the garden. We conducted a questionnaire analysis and guided tours with representatives of the target groups. This instead of the idea-generating workshop we planned that had to be canceled due to the pandemic. The project team processed the ideas and adapted them to physical conditions. Excavation of the loop started in April, a few months later than planned due to frost in the ground. We sowed and built raised benches. During the autumn, the loop was inaugurated and marketing work was carried out.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
